Introducing....Isaac Newton!
Introduction
You have been asked to design a book about Isaac Newton and his Laws of Motion for Mrs. Skires, a new teacher that has never taught about motion. She will be teaching seventh graders at a school in Kansas City. That means your book must make sense to a middle school student. Follow the instructions on this page for guidance.
Task
In order to best help Mrs. Skires teach her students, you will make a digital book using BookCreator on your iPad (if you do not have BookCreator, you can use Pages). Your book should include the following items:
1.Your team will first spend time researching Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, and the Laws of Motion. Remember to keep record of any sources you get information from (For online sources, include the web address. For books, include the Title, Author, Publication Date, and page #.)
2.When your research is completed, your team will begin the book.
4.Include a source page that lists all of your information sources (as described in #1 above).
If Book Creator is used, there should be a total of 13-14 pages plus a cover: two pages for each topic, two pages for the activity, plus at least one page for sources.
If Pages is used, then it is possible to fit each topic onto a single page, thus a total of 7 pages plus a cover page.
Resources
This is just a sample of resources available. You are free to find other sources as needed.
Newton's Three Laws of Motion
Sir Isaac Newton - English Scientist
Newton's Laws of Motion
School of Champions
Classroom Clipart
Galileo Galilei
Physics Classroom - Newton's Laws
Balanced vs. Unbalanced Forces (this is a video so use headphones)
Momentum (This is a video so use headphones)

Task
In order to best help Mrs. Skires teach her students, you will make a digital book using BookCreator on your iPad (if you do not have BookCreator, you can use Pages). Your book should include the following items:
- Information about Isaac Newton
- Information about Galileo Galilei (most importantly how Galileo's work related to Newton's work)
- definitions of any motion words used
- all three of Newton's Laws of Motion
- an activity that helps demonstrate one of the three Laws of Motion
- Is the cover eye-catching?
- Is the book easy to read (use good grammar & spelling)?
- Does it include pictures to illustrate the topics being discussed?
- Does it include a list of your sources (where did you go to get information)?
1.Your team will first spend time researching Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, and the Laws of Motion. Remember to keep record of any sources you get information from (For online sources, include the web address. For books, include the Title, Author, Publication Date, and page #.)
2.When your research is completed, your team will begin the book.
- Make a cover for your book that includes a title, the names of your group members, and a picture
- Give a brief history of Sir Isaac Newton. Find some pictures of Newton to include. (two pages for pictures and text)
- Give a brief history of Galileo Galilei. Specifically look for information about what Galileo had to do with Newton. Add a picture of Galileo. (two pages for pictures and text)
- Add two pages for each of the three Laws of Motion. For each law, include a definition, a description IN YOUR OWN WORDS!, then give a picture showing that law. Under each picture, explain how it shows the law IN YOUR OWN WORDS!
4.Include a source page that lists all of your information sources (as described in #1 above).

Submitting Work
Your book should be made using the Book Creator or Pages app on your iPad. It is recommended that your group split up the initial research, but you all work together to design the book. The book may be created on a single iPad, with a shared Google Drive document being used to share information between iPads. When the book is finished, it can be submitted on Edmodo using a PDF file. Mr. Campbell can help you if you have a problem uploading the work.
Restrictions & Due Date
The assignment can be completed as a group or as an individual. Groups can be up to four students, but no more than four. If you are working as a group, it is important that you share responsibility amongst the group members. One person should not be doing all the work.
